What qualities does Monkey Business Camp look for in potential JCs?
While having similar responsibilities to CITs, JCs are expected to take on additional responsibility.  JCs may be seeking to develop new skills for a future job with children.

The main 3 attributes we are looking for: enthusiasm, initiative, and cooperation.  This could mean different things for each JC, depending on interests and personality.  It could mean:

  • Noticing how the staff needs help and offering assistance
  • Organizing a game of soccer, baseball, tag during a free period
  • Singing a song or leading a game at circle or reading books to kids
  • Helping assist campers with projects, teaching them as you go!
  • Participating in our theme days by dressing up or bringing in items to share
  • Loading and unloading vans and in general helping behind the scenes with set-up and clean-up

What if I am not ready for the responsibilities above?
We know that this might not be for every CIT right now.  If not this summer, maybe next!  You are always welcome to come back as a CIT.  Please try again if the site staff or you feel that it is not the right time.

What is the time commitment for JCs?

The Stacy Raye Memorial Fund is in its very first year of inception and we have the deepest gratitude to all those who honored our Co-Founding Director's lasting legacy. Stacy passed away on Feb 17, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She left an amazing legacy and we strive to celebrate her memory. The SRMF was created to support ventures for children and joy. In our first year we sponsored a child, who has been touched by cancer, to attend Monkey Business Camp in Tilden Park.

Additionally, MBC likes to provide enriching training experiences for staff and youth leaders.  Please donate to our staff/youth leader training fund to help us hire additional trainers.  Last year, we hired a trainer on non-violent communication.  Staff loved it!
